TinaMarie's Kidney Transplant Journey

Hey Everyone!

Hey, I'm Tina (TinaMarie), and this is my first time trying to blog. I write in my journal every morning, but this is a whole new ballgame. I'm putting my life (the good and the bad) out there for everyone to see and (hopefully not too harshly) judge. So, here goes nothing!

Dialysis is just a part of my life, no way around it. It's a 3.5-hour commitment three times a week that keeps my blood clean and gets rid of extra fluid, giving me another day to live.

Even though kidney failure has definitely brought its challenges, it's also led to a lot of growth and change. On one hand, I've had to put some things on hold during treatments, stick to a strict diet, and deal with other health issues like retinopathy, which has messed with my eyesight, and neuropathy, which means I need a walker because of damage to my left foot.

Not being able to drive anymore has been a big adjustment, and I have to rely on others and MAS transportation to get around (let me tell you, its very humbling to have to ask for help so often and for so much).

But even with all those challenges, I found a new community and made some really good friends who get what I'm going through. In so many ways they are a lifeline, for me. They have given me that extra little incentive to show up every day(especially on those days when I'd rather be anywhere else!).

Losing 188 pounds was a huge win for my health and my self-esteem/self-worth, allowing me to get rid of things like high blood pressure, asthma, and out-of-control blood sugar, and cut way back on my meds. This journey, even though it was tough, opened up new doors and made me feel strong enough to live life to the fullest while I still can. Thanks for reading my story.
